Information on visa processing fees
Accepted payment methods
Visa fees can be paid in USD only and therefore may vary depending on the daily exchange rate. The German missions in the U.S. only accept cash. Checks or credit cards are not accepted.
Schengen visas including airport transit (new as of 2 February)
Adults: 80 EUR
Children 0-5 years: free
Children 6-12 years: 40 EUR
Children 12 years and older: 80 EUR
Certain categories of applicants are exempt from visa fees, such as:
- Scholarship recipients of German scientific organizations
- Spouses of EU citizens
- University students on study trips
- Students and accompanying teachers on educational trips
- Researchers holding a doctoral degree or an appropriate higher education qualification which gives access to doctoral programs
If you are a national of the following countries, you benefit from a reduced Schengen visa fee of 35 EUR:
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine.
Whether or not you can benefit from a fee exemption can only be determined when your visa application is submitted.
National visas
Adults: 75 EUR
Children under the age of 18: 37.50 EUR
Certain categories of applicants are exempt from national visa fees, such as:
- Spouses of German nationals
- Members of diplomatic missions, consular representations and international organizations based in Germany, their spouses and children under the age of 25
- Foreigners who receive a scholarship from public funds for their stay in Germany as well as their spouses or life partners and minor children, if they are included in the sponsorship
- In individual cases, to safeguard cultural, foreign policy, development policy or other significant public interests or for humanitarian reasons

Other fees
Please allow for an additional fee of up to 35 USD (Bermuda 60 USD, The Bahamas 65 USD) if you want us to mail your passport back. An additional fee may also be charged if copies of the supporting documents have to be made by the German Mission.
